"Help me Obiwan Kenobi…you're my only hope."

How often have you wanted to mimic that holographic projector that R2D2 utilized in Star Wars? If you're like me, you can always find something in your project that could use a holographic treatment. Futuristic messaging scenes, holographic billboards, or a heads up display are just a few ways in which Holomatrix can be your best friend.

There are many tools within After Effects that can help you to achieve the same look, when compounded atop each other and adjusted with expressions…but this is highly time consuming and to be honest, not all of us are After Effects whizzes. Red Giant has built many effective plug-ins that 'take the tech' out of the creative process, and Holomatrix is another fine example of this.

The Holomatrix effect system is located in the Window tab.

Ease of Use
Holomatrix is not just a simple effect plug in for After Effects. It manipulates multiple effects and expressions within After Effects to create complex effects in a much faster, more simple interface. Because of this, it is not listed among the other effects. It has it's own user interface that you access from the Window tab. It is dockable if you wish, or it can float among your other windows. Considering all of the complex computations that Holomatrix does for you, it's very simple to use.

When you apply Holomatrix to your footage, it gives you several easy to use presets that you can use to give specific looks to your footage. You can cycle through them until you find something close to what you are attempting to achieve, and then get into deeper adjustments if you're not completely satisfied. One thing I've always loved about Red Giant Software is how simple they make it to use. If it's simple, it's quick…if it's quick, you save time…if you save time, you can hit the bar sooner.
