Filmmaker's Dictionary

In an effort to make filmmaking easier to understand, we've found that making available a dictionary of commonly used film terms is useful.

While many of you may be very familiar with what a C-47 is, a new filmmaker is more likely to believe that it is a new Boeing aircraft than a common, wooden clothespin used to hold gels on barn doors. Even barn doors sound unusual until you have a frame of reference.

Some of these terms are older terms, but we've included them here as a reference. While we may do things differently at the micro-cinema level than are currently done in extremely expensive Hollywood productions, knowing the terminology ensures ease of communication.
