In case you haven't heard about it, FOX has a new reality show called On the Lot. The show is to independent filmmaking what American Idol is to singing. You can get caught up on missed episodes and see the shorts contestants have made here:

Been watching it, I like it. There's lots of uproar in the indie filmmaking community about how generated reality is bad...um...irony, sweet irony, isn't that what we do?

Cole,

I agree. I actually wrote an editorial about the show in this past issue, which illustrates some of my thoughts, concerns, and potential benefits of the show.

Obviously, it has the potential to give another Hollywood outlet to low-budget filmmakers, but may also have some negative side-effects, depending on how it is handled throughout and how much support Hollywood actually gives the top placing people. (After all, Project Greenlight's support was practically non-existant, even from Miramax who sponsored most of it.)

If you want to read my editorial on the show which was written after the first two episodes aired, you can read it at: http://www.microfilmmaker.com/Editorials/edit19b.html
